OVERVIEW

Gonorrhoea can cause serious health problems, and we are running out of ways to treat it. Gonorrhoea is currently treated with antibiotics, however there has been an increase in antibiotic resistance which means treatment is becoming less effective.

The Holdsworth House Research team are currently seeking volunteers to trial a new possible Gonorrhoea treatment.

THE INVESTIGATIONAL TREATMENT

The investigational treatment is an antibiotic which is being investigated for gonorrhoea and other infections such as urinary tract infections (UTIs). The antibiotic is a tablet, taken with food. The study has no placebo, so you will be treated, you will either receive the investigational medication, or the current standard treatment (ceftriaxone injection, plus azithromycin tablets).

There is no cost for study medication or care, and travel costs will be reimbursed.

WHAT HAPPENS?

If you enquire, we will discuss the study with you confidentially, then send you some further information to read. There is no pressure for you to take part, however if you are willing to participate you will attend your first study appointment asap to receive treatment for your gonorrhoea.

You will see a study doctor 3 times over 21 days, the study doctor will need to do a few tests to confirm you have gonorrhoea but you will be treated at your first study appointment.
