Before you see the world see your HHMP Doctor
HHMP recognises that Australians are great travellers
and some of our most popular travel destinations are
developing countries where serious infectious diseases
are common, and now with world weather conditions changing,
even developed countries are susceptible to risk.
Most people who travel to these countries enjoy good
health and don’t contract illnesses. But to be
on the safe side you need to think about some simple
health precautions.
In many overseas countries, infections such as tetanus,
diphtheria, polio, yellow fever, malaria and travellers
diarrhoea can pose threats to the unwary traveller.
Each traveller is unique. Your risk of exposure to disease
and developing an illness while travelling is determined
by several factors:
• Length of time before departure
• Your current health
• Itinerary
• Length of stay
• Food and water sources
• Previous health problems when travelling
• Geographical destination(s)
• Purpose of travel
• Type of accommodation

Your HHMP Doctor can give you advice on the appropriate
immunisation to maximise your health protection. Your
childhood immunisations should be up-to-date and you
may need other immunisations. Some immunisation schedules
can take up to eight weeks, so make your appointment
as soon as you start planning your trip.
Be sure to see your HHMP doctor and ask for our brochure
– Going Overseas – Get the facts about avoiding
health risks. HHMP is an Australian Government Approved
Yellow Fever Vaccination Centre.
