Quit Smoking with Hypnosis
Dr Caroline can help you become a non-smoker for life with hypnotherapy. Hypnosis is useful to help break the psychological and unwanted habit of smoking. Just as an athlete uses self hypnosis to visualise performing at their peak, hypnosis can be used to increase your motivation, confidence and success. Counselling, medical advice, relaxation techniques and hypnotherapy with positive suggestions for change allow you to create healthy new habits and behaviours. Hypnotherapy sessions are extensive/ prolonged consultations booked for 45 minutes (a Medicare rebate may be available). The number of recommended sessions will depend on your needs. Generally an initial half hour counselling session to define issues and goals will be followed by 3 hypnotherapy sessions at weekly intervals. A follow up session is usually recommended 6 weeks after your quit date. Quitting smoking is one of the most important health decisions you will ever make. Regardless of your smoking history, it is never too late to quit. The focus with hypnotherapy is firmly on the positives. Remember, you are not giving up anything, you are gaining your health. KickButt! Nicotine Cessation Program
The KickButt! Program is a high success-rate, medically-supervised tobacco cessation program.
It was developed in Canada and is based on 10 years of evidenced-based research by GP/addictions specialist Dr. Ron Aspinall.
One of the most important factors in nicotine (and many other) addiction(s) is that nicotine (reversibly) damages the brain's natural dopamine pleasure system, making the person more needy.
Further, for the last 40 years, tobacco manufacturers have made tobacco even more addictive by adding a small amount of bleach to each cigarette, a chemical process called free-basing!
The program is multi-dimensional, incorporating willpower, insight, separation psychology, dopamine booster medication, brain nutrient support and where indicated, hormonal support. Genetics is a very important additional and often hidden factor in both the susceptibility to and clinical management of nicotine (and other) addictions. Medication is usually required for the 8 week withdrawal phase to relieve cravings and avoid weight gain.
The KickButt! Program is run out of the Holdsworth House Medical Practice in Fletcher St Byron Bay. Dr Aspinall also runs Orientation Workshops on nicotine cessation at the Byron Bay Community Centre on a monthly basis to both inform and promote the program.
